Veel heb ik niet kunnen vinden over de van oorsprong Australische, maar tegenwoordig in Zweden wonende singer-songwriter Hazlett. Tot op heden bracht hij twee succesvolle EP’s uit en toerde hij uitgebreid in Australië en Europa. Voorheen verdiende de verlegen zanger uit Brisbane zijn geld met ghostwriting en het inspelen van verschillende instrumenten voor andere artiesten. Uiteindelijk vond hij zijn creatieve thuis in Zweden. In zijn woonplaats Stockholm nam hij tijdens de Coronapandemie samen met goede vriend en producer Freddy Alexander zijn soloproject en debuut Bloom Mountain op.
Over het album, vertelt Hazlett zelf het volgende: "The intent of the album was to make something elaborately gorgeous from start to finish. I wanted my love for little details to come out in it. I wanted people to reminisce about putting on this album for the first time and how they miss that feeling. I wanted to write more from a place outside of myself for the album. Like I was able to leave my body and tell stories not necessarily from my own perspective but from looking back at me.
Because I want people to find bits of themselves in the music which I think you get more when it's a story teller perspective and not necessarily so biographical all the time. Like when you tell something to a friend and they pass it on, embellishing certain moments you wouldn't have and being far more succinct in others. I wanted it to sound as big as an open valley but as intimate as that old rickety guitar in your friend's garage that hasn't been tuned in years. I do enjoy dubbing the music under ballroom folk somewhat. I feel it implies that it's something grandiose, but also intimate and heartfelt.".
Hesitate is een duet met de zeer talentvolle Oostenrijkse zangeres Maria Burger (aka OSKA). Veelal zingt Hazlett ingetogen met zijn prettige stem, die de kers op de taart is. Zijn liedjes blijven trouwens ook in sobere liveversies fier overeind. Drie weken geleden was Hazlett ter promotie te horen op NPO Radio 2, waar hij toen My Skin bracht.
